Whimsical Scraps & Bugs Challenge 13

The latest challenge we gave our DT over at Whimsical Scraps & Bugs was to alter flash cards (or jumbo playing cards) using their Cricuts and an Easter theme. Wow! The DT came up with some really super cute ideas and I hope y'all check out their awesome projects on the blog.

I decided to make a stand-alone Easter banner for the challenge. I double layered the flash cards (for a total of 14) and then covered them with paper before inking the edges. I made sure not to adhere the top portion of the cards together so that I would have room to slip in a tag. Each card has a tag inserted - the first tag has John 3:16 on it and then the remaining six tags have a beautiful Easter poem on them. I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch holes in the tags and the cards with eyelets so that I could tie on ribbon.

The cartridges I used for this project were George for the tags & letters and then Home Solutions for the butterflies & flower embellies. I also used skittles, glitter glue & lots of flowers/ribbon. Products used include My Mind's Eye, Making Memories, Bazzill & The Paper Studio paper; StampCraft ink; Ranger Stickles; Prima flowers; and K&Co. ribbon.

Please make sure to check out our other ladies' beautiful creations and take a look at our next challenge. I plan on posting it Tuesday and hope to see a lot of beautiful results! Make sure to play along with us!

Cousins

I think I am finally done with ALL of the photos we took on Thanksgiving Day. I believe these are the last ones to scrap! Once again, our niece, nephew and son posing for the camera. I don't think any of them know the meaning of the term, camera shy!
Got the layout idea from Scrapbook Answers, yet again. Used Bazzill cardstock and I believe the patterned paper is Making Memories. I cut a tag using my George cartridge and made the pocket from my photo. The ribbon is Basic Grey and I doodled & journaled on the tag too. The rub ons are also Basic Gray. For the title, I actually used the inner packaging of the rub ons which was such a pretty brown. I used the Opposites Attract cartridge to cut the word and then I doodled on the letters with my white Sakura gel pen.
I like how this layout turned out and I like that I am getting more comfortable with my doodling. Especially now that I realize I am not necessarily going to mess everything up!! LOL!!

Texas Moment

This is the cover page for the 2008 section of our Texas Longhorn Scrapbook. Every August we go down to Austin for the UT Fan Appreciation Day. We spend at least 4-5 days exploring something new every year. It is one of our absolute fav cities to visit. Plus we have family nearby we visit too! I have completed most of the other pages for this year, but hadn't done the cover/journal page yet. Finally got it done and am so happy!
No Cricut on this layout! Isn't that absolutely amazing for me?!! Trying not to depend on it so much and explore other creative avenues. This layout is a few shots of the campus along with some postcards I picked up on Sixth Street. The longhorn is a die cut I got from an LSS down there, Felicia's Scrapbooks, and then I used a few different colors to paint it. My fav thing about this layout though is the little scrap of leather at the bottom. I have been packing this little piece of an old luggage handle around for the longest. Finally used it and was so glad. I used American Crafts rub ons for the word and the flower on the strip of leather. The other thing I like is the beer bottlecaps I used. My hubby thought I was crazy when I asked him to save them, but they finally turned up on something and he liked it. He has kind of gotten used to my exclamation of, "Don't throw that away! I can use it for scrapping!" Bless his heart!

Doodles

I'm Baaaccckkk!! LOL! Back from the stay-cation and it was relaxing. Didn't get to go kayaking thanks to the weather not cooperating, but that is okay! We will do it another weekend and we had so much fun without doing it! Good mother/son time.

Got a few layouts done, started on the new Whimsical Scraps & Bugs challenge, and made my sis-n-law a cute little altered clipboard too. Forgot to take photos of said clipboard though, so will have to swing by her house and post those later!

This is a layout of our fur baby, Sid. My mom-n-law took this photo on Thanksgiving and he just looked so gorgeous! He is the best Boxer EVER!! The layout design came from Scrapbook Answers - I actually copied it almost completely. I just loved it and I have been wanting to doodle on my pages, but am sooo afraid too. The paper I used was Cloud 9 Desings, DCWB and Bazzill. White gel pen is by Sakura and used a black Sharpie, too. I did use my Cricut to cut the circles using the George cartridge.

Now, to post a few more.....LOL!!!

Stay-cation!

Spring break is here and the kiddo is out of school so I am taking off the next few days to spend some quality time with him. Just a little stay at home vacation that is very much needed. I have some fun things planned - kayaking, museum exhibit, maybe the zoo and who knows, we might throw in some rock climbing too!! Just me and the kid (and the fur baby) chillin' at home! Ooohh, and I almost forgot, sleeping late! Really lookin' forward to that!! LOL!
I don't plan on posting anything the rest of the week, but I do plan to get a lot of scrappin' done though! Gonnna stay busy, busy, busy both day and night!! So, when I get back expect a major amount of posts!
In the meantime, keep your mind on blog candy because when I get back Online, that is exactly what I will have! Yummy Blog Candy! Will post a pic of it the first part of next week and give everyone a chance to get the goodies! Take care!!
Happy Scrapping!

Bloom

My first round layout! Always love looking at them but had never tried to do one before. And guess what?! I loved it! It is a great way to get out of the square shape funk from constantly doing the same size layouts. A great change of pace!

Once again, some photos I took this past Thanksgiving at our house. These are of our beautiful niece Destiny. I journaled around the scalloped edge of the paper (which is manufactured by Crate Paper) with a white Sakura pen (love this pen) about her personality and what happened during the day. The background papers are We-R-Memory-Keeepers and the title papers are The Paper Studio.
I used the Opposites Attract and George Cricut cartridges for the title, as well as some chipboard buttons from DCWV. Flowers are Prima and the paisleys I handcut from some more We-R-Memory-Keepers paper. The felt ribbon is from Michael's $1 ribbon bin (!) and the brads are Making Memories.
Definitely going to have to do some more round layouts since they are so much fun. Still working on getting some more done with my DCWV Green Stack so I can get those posted too!
Happy Crafting!

Challenge #12 - Lucky! Card

I had a BLAST doing this challenge Cindy and I assigned to our DT at Whimsical Scraps & Bugs! The ladies on the DT were asked to create a St. Patrick's Day card, non-traditional if possible, using their Cricuts and the color green.

For this card I used the Indie Art cartridge to cut both the dice and the word, Lucky! I used the George cartridge to cut hearts for the four leaf clover. I shadowed the dice, title and the hearts, as well as pop-dotted them. The cardstock used in the project is Bazzill and the patterned paper is Reminiscence. I also inked the edges of the patterned paper to give it a more distressed look and help it blend in more with the cardstock background. The buttons used in the center of the clover are some that I received in a swap, not sure of the brand. The finished size of the card is 6x6.

For once, I am completely satisfied with this card! Since I am not known for being the most self-confident scrapper (LOL!) this is a big deal for me. I feel more comfortable making cards than I ever have thanks to lots of challenges! I hope you enjoy this one too! I had to post this a little early as I will be away from my computer for the weekend. The rest of the DT's designs will be up by Monday! Make sure to check them out and we would love you to play along with our next challenge....you're gonna love it!!

Going Green!!

St. Patty's Day is just around the corner and that is the focus of our most recent challenge on the Whimsical Scraps & Bugs site! Take a moment to jump on over to the site to get all the details. We would love to see what everyone comes up with as we think this challenge will be a blast! Just make sure to put those Cricuts to good use!

I will hopefully have my card done later tonight and it will be posted by the end of the week, too. Super excited about this challenge - maybe because green is my fav color! LOL

Challenge #11 - Spring Card

Okay, for the Whimsical Scraps & Bugs challenge we had to do several things. We asked our DT members to create either a layout, card or altered item using only black & white. They were allowed to use one other color, sparingly, and had to include the word SPRING, cut with their Cricut. They also had to include some bling! I decided to do a card for the challenge and while I wasn't sure about it after I first completed it, the card is growing on me and I actually like it quite a bit!

I used the Opposites Atrract cartridge to cut the word, SPRING. The paper is a combination of Bazzill, The Paper Studio and generic white cardstock. Not sure who the bling is by, but the ribbon is from Michael's. I colored in three of the flowers on the patterned paper with a gel pen and also used my Sakura Gelly Roll pen in white for the dots on the letters. Oh, and I also heavily pop dotted the letters!

I hope you make it a point to go see all the wonderful creations our DT came up with for this challenge. They always do a great job. Hope you also decide to play along with us too! We would love to see everyone's take on the challenge!

Two of a Kind

I promised some more layouts using my new DCWV Green Stack and here is another one. I am having so much fun playing with this paper! It is inspiring to get some more scrapping done and it is a relief to feel like you are maybe catching up just a little! Don't you think so?

This is another set of photos from Thanksgiving a few months ago. These are of our son and our nephew, Drake. Isn't he a cutie! They both are adorable boys and such great friends too! The sketch for the layout again came from Scrapbook Answers (one of my fav mags!) The flowers on the layout are a mix of Primas, Making Memories and foam flowers cut with my Cricut. Now, here is the deal. I had heard that you could cut foam easily with the Cricut. However, as is usally my luck, that wan't the case for me. It did not cut throug the foam so I may have to use the deep cut blade and housing. What it did do was partially cut it enough for me to finish trimming it out myself with scissors. Worked for me. Loved the resulting effect! I used the George cart for the flowers. I used threaded buttons and skittles for the centers, and also pop dotted some for a 3-D effect. The title is the combo of the Opposites Attract and George carts, while the rub ons I used were by Making Memories, too, I think. The ribbon is from Michael's and the chipboard arrow is DCWV, while the brads are Making Memories.

Hopefully I will have the time to do at least two more layouts this week using this stack. That is my goal at least!! LOL

Goodies for Me!!

It arrived and I am so excited! Cindy, aka snoflake on the Cricut MB, sent me my Valentine Paint Can for the swap we participated in together. Not only was it absolutely the cutest can ever, as you can see in the photos, but was filled to the brim with all sorts of goodies!

Not only did she send me some of fav items, she also sent me some embellies I have never seen at my local stores. Plus, she sent me the absolute cutest Valentine socks, yummy lip balm and scrumptious smelling body butter! Also inside the can was the most gorgeous friendship card and an adorably wrapped candy bar!! She is so sweet, so kind and so talented. I am so blessed to call her my friend! Thanks, Cindy!!

Tweet Heart

I FINALLY got a chance to play with my new DCWV Green Stack and this is the result. I found the basic page map for the layout in one of my scrapbook magazines; I think it was Scrapbook Answers - LOVE THEM! I decided to scrap some of the photos that we took over Thanksgiving at our new house and wanted to keep with the nature theme.

I used the Cricut cartridge Home Accents to cut the partridge, Opposites Attract to cut the word Heart, George to cut the heart shapes and Paper Pups for the tree. For the eye on the partridge I used some self-adhesive dimensional pearls. I love these little accents and they are so cheap - I actually picked them up at my local Dollar Tree! I used some recycled paper chipboard letters from K & Co. for the word, tweet, and the chipboard buttons are also by DCWV. I sewed them on using Bazzill thread in Desert Sand. The background paper for the photos and for the word, heart, are from The Paper Studio while the red cardstock for the small heart shape is Bazzill. The red patterend paper for the heart shape was actually left over packaging from the chipboard buttons. I save everything! LOL! I also used quite a few pop dots on this project (as always - LOL!) and my Zig glue pen, which I fell in love with several months ago thanks to a fellow scrapper.

The journaling on the tree reads: Such a sweet face. Such a sweet boy. Nearly thirteen. Growing so fast. So kind. November 2008.

I hope to do a few more layouts this week using the DCWV stack, too!
